Built and refined for my daily needs. It might just work for yours. I've been using some variation of this for 7 years now.
This is a simple key fob designed to clip onto a belt or bag strap for easy carry and access. A bit like a Carabeiner, but better. (Not for climbing)
Because this is designed to hang from a belt, not a belt loop, snagging your keys will never mean a torn pair of pants.
The combination of stiff vegetable tanned leather and a smooth, expertly polished edge mean the open fob can be easily slid up around a belt from below and snapped over top to secure.
The trick is that the snap is easy to pop open with your thumb when you need it, but it is much more resistant to opening when the force is applied from the side, like if the key ring gets caught in a seat or snagged on a cabinet knob.
Friction between the belt and waist also help keep the keys in place even if the snap does get pulled open.
I use one for my keys and one to hold a classic Nalgene water bottle from my belt. The simple snap will hold the weight of walking with that full bottle sloshing around.
Standard design best accommodates a 1.5 inch belt. Can be made larger or smaller by request.
